New JPEG Standard Set to Make it's Debut

The new and improved JPEG Standard which it's developers are calling JPEG 9 promises an overall speed boost, support for 12bit colour processing and true lossless file compression. The people responsible for defining JPEG and new JPEG-9 image formats are the Independent JPEG Group at the Leipzig Institute for Applied Informatics. We should start to see new hardware and software adopt JPEG-9 sometime in the very near future.
